I also understand well that encapsulating one filesystem within another adds a significant amount of overhead to an I/O intensive VM, so I needed a way to put my VM on a raw disk, not on top of another filesystem.

Ok, this just really pissed me off to the degree that I feel compelled to make a public post about this.
